November 2009 Pet of the Month
Rusty
In Loving Memory
(A hand written note by his owner: Bill Gragg)
Rusty "Ro-Ho"
Rusty was born August 26, 1997. I got him when he was 8 weeks old. My girlfriend
brought him home to me. As a puppy, he was a good one. I had a poodle named Dano
to play with about the same age. They played with tennis balls in the living room,
chasing each other.
As the years went by, we built a very close bond between us. He got the nickname
"Ro-Ho" (which is red in Spanish) because he was reddish in color.
Ro-Ho was a well disciplined pet with very good manners. He would never jump on
anyone with his dirty feet. He would always stop at the door with wet or dry feet
to get them wiped. (We had towels at my door.)
He loved people, especially children. All the neighbors loved him and loved to pet
him. He loved me very much and knew his Daddy loved him. He would always give you
a thank you kiss for cold water from the refridge or a treat.
He ate and slept in the same house that I did and never made a mess.
He was Daddy's boy.
He had a 1/2 acre yard to play in and chase squirrels. Also a 1/2 acre lot with
trees joining the yard that was vacant with oak trees where we went squirrel hunting
most everyday. He liked to go looking for possum at night (He didn't kill the squirrels,
just chased and played with them.) We have a feeder for them in the backyard. We
went for a walk around the block just about every day or night, rain or dry.
The only thing I know he didn't like was cats, because one scratched his nose and
made it bleed when he was a puppy. He tore his A.C.L. chasing one out of the yard
two years ago and had to have surgery.
He was compassionate and understood so much English and behaved so well. I know
it will be hard to find another one close to what he was.
The Lord has been good to me and blessed me with some good things in life but this
was the best of them all, because it has hurt and broke my heart so bad to loose
him.
He was 12 years and almost 2 months old. He died October 20, 2009.
He is now sitting in my living room waiting to be buried with me and his little
brother Dano, who died two years ago November 23, 2007.
